Aston Martin has halted development of the Lagonda SUV due to the global financial crisis.

A large part of the investment capital required to relaunch the 100 year old luxury brand is available but the timing is simply wrong. Key target markets were to be the emerging economies with a taste for über luxury items – Russia, the Middle East and China – and the buyers currently just do not exist.

The super-luxury SUV was originally to be based on the Mercedes GL platform and launch with a V12 petrol engine with diesel and hybrid drive systems available down the line.
Apparently Aston Martin Lagonda’s Chairman, David Richards, had not seen the concept until late in its development and is not a fan of the styling. A second concept is rumoured to be in development for reveal at the Frankfurt Motorshow.
